Our Story
Only established in December 2020, Dark Matter is unquestionably the new brand on the block. It used to be the dream of a teenage boy, which has now become a reality. Udo Meyer, the dreamer with more than ten years of graphic design experience, spent many days fantasising about this clothing brand. He shared his dream with an old friend, Paris Stergiadis, and partner, Marilynne Botha. The three of them grew to become the founders of Dark Matter Apparel and are now rocking this dream side by side.
Ethics
At the Dark Matter Apparel Company, we not only focus on what goes on the merchandise, the designs are fantastic by the way, but we also focus on quality and comfort.
We have a variety of different cuts to suit customers from all walks of life. Each item is made to be soft to the touch, breathable, feel lush, yet affordable. The designs are creative, pleasing to the eye and certainly trending.
Mission
The aim is to provide an affordable product with a kiff design and supreme quality. As Namibians, we are proud of where we come from and love the iconic sceneries the country has to offer. This is why you will see places like the “Skeleton Coast” or the “Quivertree Forest” on our merchandise. We want Namibians to have what other countries have; something to be proud of and call their own.
The Products
Our products are made from either 100% Cotton, a combination of 95/5 Cotton Lycra, 62/33/5 Polycotton Lycra, or 65/35 Polycotton. All giving you that comfortable, “I want to sleep in this” feeling.
All designs are applied using silkscreen printing. Silkscreen printing has been around since the 1960s. It is a method in which ink/paint is transferred to the fabric with mesh and screens. Thereafter the fabric is heated, creating a durable printed product.
What is Dark Matter
Dark Matter is a scientific term used for all matter or material that cannot directly be seen and accounts for about 25% of the universe. It is composed of particles that don’t emit, absorb or reflect light. The only way of knowing that Dark Matter truly exists is by looking at the surrounding objects in the universe that can be observed.
Scientists have been studying dark matter and dark energy, which makes up about 70% of the universe, since 1933 and can only prove its exitance with the gravitational effects on the various galaxies.
Basically, we are only familiar with 5% of the matter in the universe, the other 95% is still unknown to us, and therefore Dark Matter is a mysterious phenomenon. Like many other phenomena we have on earth, like life in the Namib Desert for example, that is unexplainable, yet we find ourselves drawn to its beauty.
